Welcome to the future. Welcome to the Green Party.

After a busy evening last night, I decided to watch some news to unwind, instead I got more worked up.

CBC National News announced last night that Green Party Leader Elizabeth May would be left out of the coming televised debates

After writing last night that finding sustainable solutions is about bringing together different areas of expertise, I was totally shocked to hear that Ms. May would not be included.

Put aside our individual political beliefs (Conservative. Liberal. NDP. or Green) I think it is important to allow each of the leader’s to have their say. Even if she is not elected, even if no one from the Green Party gets into parliament, what if the other leaders, other members of parliament listen to the Green Party’s ideas? I think there can be progress made if we listen to what they have to say.

The scientific evidence says that we may face a climate crisis in the near future and as it says in the title the Green Party thinks they will be the future. If they can help, in conjunction with other parties, to solve the climate crisis than I’m willing to listen.

To follow up … Elizabeth May was permitted to join the debates.

My boyfriend did raise a good point though. Having a seat at the debates gives her a ‘louder’ voice than what was voted by Canadians (the Green Party currently holds one seat). However, I think it is a good start in creating more political voices in Canada.
