TAC: Day 2 – And Metrolinx Unveils their Master Plan

September 23rd was a ‘big’ day in the Toronto area with both the TAC conference taking place and Metrolinx unveiling their master plan for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

I had the opportunity to attend the session on Regional Transportation Plans: Lessons In Sustainability. The first presentation of the session is what drew the crowds. Leslie Woo, The General Manager of Policy and Planning at Metrolink presented ‘A Regional Transportation Plan for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area: Towards Complete Mobility.’   Her  presentation hinted towards what Metrolinx would be revealing but could not get into the specific details (from the conference Leslie was heading to the announcement of the Draft Regional Transportation Plan[RTP]).

The presentation mentioned TTC, GO Transit, highway investments, pedestrain interests, and cycle commute plans. She highlighted that we are all facing the same challenges, increasing gas costs, climate change, the economy, and urbanization. Although she did not release any details it was great to hear that there would be a master plan.

Officially the RTP is called The Big Move: Transporming Transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. I have not had a chance to go through the RTP, but I’m hoping to get a chance this weekend to go through it.
