Trucking Enforcement Update

A few weeks ago I wrote a post about the trucking industry on how it is time for reform. This morning this was posted. Although it is a start I still echo that the change needs to come from the companies and not through enforcement of the trucks.

The new initiatives …

  • commercial vehicle operators will be required to renew their registrations every year, which should allow for better monitoring of companies’ safety performance and allow early action to take place to address safety concerns
  • A new education program to help drivers understand the rules and requirements to safely operate their business
  • 50 additional enforcement officers have been hired along with the 300 currently employed

Will this make a difference?

Hopefully in a year I am reminded to look at the statistics of the trucking industry again. I do believe that a difference will be made only once we attack this problem from the root, from companies that hire and load these deadly trucks.
